On June 20, the Heber City Council approved the draft Airport Master Plan update and Airport Layout Plan (ALP) and authorized City staff to formally submit to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) for review. This submission is a major milestone in completing the airport master plan update process. Once the master plan and ALP are accepted and approved, the City can begin planning for the implementation of the improvements noted on the ALP.
The FAA typically takes a minimum 45 business days to review and accept an airport master plan update, and to approve the ALP, which is the technical drawing set of what the airport master plan describes. While FAA approval does not guarantee funding for future efforts, it does indicate that the plan complies with the federal government’s safety and design standards.
The new airport master plan will help guide airport development for the next two decades, laying out required safety updates such as widening and relocating the airport’s existing runway to the southwest, expanding runway safety zones, and offering opportunities for self-serve aircraft fueling.
